Turn Mistakes Into Valuable Lessons

Turn mistakes into valuable lessons and use this time to redefine your reputation. Utilize this unexpected time where we are forced to slow down a bit to take a closer look at your social media. Are you happy with how it looks? Do you wish you would have done things differently? Believe it or not, it can be rather simple to fix some “mistakes” you’ve made along your social media journey as well as add more compelling content. Remember, mistakes hold the power to turn you into something better than you were before and time used wisely can add value.

First and foremost I want you to view mistakes as your teacher and know that the biggest mistake you could make would be to not try at all. Now, really take a look at your social media. Do all your posts have captions? Are you using hashtags appropriately? One of the biggest mistakes I see on social media is a picture without a caption. Make sure you use all the proper functions of a standard social media post. You don’t want to leave people guessing. You also want to make sure you’re using appropriate hashtags to gain reach and visibility. You may have a well put together post, but without hashtags, you are not reaching the view potential of your target audience.

Now let’s take a look at your photos on social media. Are you using pictures from 20 years ago? Are you posting pictures of yourself at all? A quick and easy tip to clean up your social media is to update your photos. It can be as easy as setting up your iPhone on a tripod or finding a reputable local photographer. It’s always a good idea to have photos of you as the individual along with logos and graphics. Social Media is intended to be social first, let people get to know the real you.

Lastly, to add some more compelling content to your social media page, leap out of your comfort zone and make some videos. You can keep it relatable and speak directly to the camera or utilize a lunch meeting or conference call to get footage of some notable points. Videos often seem time-consuming to a business owner, but if you get in the habit of capturing moments when you are in your “natural habitat” you will be surprised how much great content you will receive.

Always remember, there is never enough time to do everything but there is always enough time to do what is important. Learn from the past, use your time wisely in the present and prepare with confidence for the future. We may not be able to control our circumstances but we can control our reputation and now is the perfect time to redefine yours.
