Live Work Play Methodology
The live, work, play methodology is a way to break down your target clients' demographics and psychographics. Today, I will walk you through the strategy of live, work, play, dine, travel, relax, stay. Each one of these sections is a way for you to get as specific as possible with your social media strategy and overall marketing strategy.
Live
You have what's called a primary market and a secondary market. Your primary market is your geographic location. Your secondary market is number one, the suburban or city area that surrounds your central area. Let's say the client resides in the town, then your secondary market is the suburban area that surrounds your city.
This second part of your secondary market is the vacation market. Ask yourself, where do your clients own their second or third home. In a city, perhaps there's a local beach, an hour or two away from where your client owns a second or third home. Perhaps there is a mountainous area where your client owns a second or third home. Consider this when creating the live section of the live, work, play methodology. You may be the vacation market, so for you, the live strategy is reverse. Let's say you are the vacation market, you're the beach market, or the mountainous market, you will then go to your secondary market, which are cities and suburban areas.
Work
What is your client's industry? Entertainment, technology, fashion, retail, eCommerce, and so on, that's the industry.
The next section of work is the company. Write a list of specific companies in these sectors. Write a list of tech companies, retail companies, fashion companies, and so forth. So let's say you're in a city or a suburban area or a second home environment, whichever market you are within, and companies are abundant, I'm talking 20 or 50 companies. For now, since this is your first time or perhaps you're even redefining your strategy, select five.
Next is the title of the prospective client in the work category. Founder, chairman, philanthropist, CEO, entrepreneur, a venture capitalist. What's their title?
Play
Play is the activity of pleasure your client enjoys. Play lifestyle attributes include theater, sports, entertainment, and other leisure activities.
Dine
What is your client enjoying a meal?
Do they have a palette for specific styles of food? In the dine category, research the best restaurants in the area that are Michelin Star. Examples of excellent top restaurants attribute to renown chefs and restaurateurs nationally.
Travel
Where does your client travel outside of your area?
What hotels are within your target market area?
Look at this both ways — Business people travel. A business person who wants to relocate to your city stays at a hotel in your area. Travel also means to evaluate your second home market. Where are residents of your area owning their second home?
Relax
Relax is self pampering, a spa, health, and rejuvenation. What businesses provide health and wellness services in your neighborhood? Relax is a destination for the mind, body, and soul while indulging in the town's best offerings.
